Update on 20 June 2023: We’ve updated this article with the latest Puzzle Ring info in Diablo 3 Season 28.
What is the Puzzle Ring in Diablo 3?
The Puzzle Ring is a Legendary item in Diablo 3, which drops for players level 29 and higher.
The Puzzle Ring’s in-game description, for the lore buffs out there, reads: “Clearly the product of an ingenious and befuddling mind, this ring has interlocking pieces that rotate and shift to reveal strange glowing patterns. Every configuration reveals a different magical property.”
One of the biggest draws of the Puzzle Ring is its Legendary property, which summons a Treasure Goblin to your side. This little shiny demon-critter prevents you from picking up common quality items, excluding items for Transmogrification.

Once it has picked up between 12 and 16 items, it makes a little sound and drops a rare item or, better, with a chance at a Legendary. These drops also always have six affixes, which is nice.
Note that you cannot drop common items from your inventory to give to your Treasure Goblin helper.
D3 Puzzle Ring & Kanai’s Cube – How To Open The Vault
While you can wear the Puzzle Ring and get some stats benefits alongside that little Treasure Goblin helper, players can also open The Vault, Greed’s Realm, with the Puzzle Ring.
You can transmute a Puzzle Ring in Kanai’s Cube to open a portal to The Vault. This area’s level depends on the level of your Puzzle Ring. So even if you have a max-level character and use a Puzzle Ring of level 39, you will only get level 39 gold and loot rewards.
It is also important to note that Puzzle Rings in Diablo 3 can be Ancient or even Primal quality. This increases both the reward and difficulty of The Vault.
Check out the video from YouTuber Forsaken Rogue below, showcasing what happens when an Ancient Puzzle Ring is used to open The Vault.

The Vault Sentries get replaced by Treasure Goblins if a Primal or Ancient Puzzle Ring is used to open the portal, and you will also notice the area being much darker than usual.
Remember, the Puzzle Ring will be destroyed on use in Kanai’s Cube.
How to Farm Puzzle Rings in Diablo 3
Since the Puzzle Ring has no specific location that it can drop, you can get it from anywhere as a world item.
However, you can make farming Puzzle Rings more effective. Adventure Mode is always nice, and heading to your favorite farming spot or activity in a Torment difficulty world should get you a Puzzle Ring drop.
You should use a solid farming build for your class. For example, the Wave of Light (WoL) Monk running Greater Rifts will do the trick.
Speaking of Greater Rifts, our advice for quickly farming some Puzzle Rings is to run them and keep farming effectiveness in mind. We recommend running Greater Rifts at the highest level so you can quickly complete them, with four minutes being the maximum here.
So there you have everything about the Puzzle Ring in Diablo 3 Season 28, including how to farm it, its uses, and what happens when you transmute it in Kanai’s Cube.
