You are watching: How to Clean Your Walls With Ease
I hate cleaning the walls in my home. It’s one of the worst jobs in my opinion. You typically use a rag and have to wipe them down with hot water and a mild no residue detergent. And unless you’re six and a half feet, you probably need a step stool to get the job done. By the time you’re finished, your back is probably aching and when you look at what you actually got done, it’s probably just one room and you have several more to go. And maybe even your ceilings too depending on what they have for texturing. It’s so bad, that this job probably goes undone. Which is fine for a while, but it will be noticeable after go so long.
But it doesn’t have to be that way anymore! You can clean your walls with ease and not have to wear gloves to or risk having red and chapped hands. You don’t have to have a back that aches for days. Instead, with this trick, you’ll be saving your valuable time and not dread giving your walls a quick but thorough cleaning. Your home will be cleaner and happier, just trust me. It really makes a difference!
I recently had some walls to clean and when I say recently, I mean I’ve put the job off for a year. Have I mentioned I hate cleaning walls? Like, the whole house needed a good scrub down and this was one of the tasks furthest on the list. But the time had come and I couldn’t put it off anymore. So here I was, thinking for an easier and quicker way. There had to be a better way. Enter, the spin mop. Yup, I said what I said.
Clean Your Walls with Ease with This Simple Tool
The O-Cedar spin mob has been huge lately. You see them on tik-toks, instagrams, everywhere… And so when I started dreading cleaning these walls I thought to myself, well why couldn’t this tool help out? Work smarter, not harder friends. And boy, was I about to just appreciate this mop in a whole new way.
The O-Cedar spin mop extends out to about 4 feet or so. An average women, say 5 foot something, should be able to use the spin mop and reach the top of an average wall with ease. Depending on your your height and your wall height, you might need a step stool or chair. But the beauty of the spin mop is that you can clean your walls in large sweeping motions without throwing your back out.
The only caveat to this method is that the microfiber mob heads can catch on nails you might have in your wall for hanging pictures and such. I just go around areas with lots of hanging things and go back with a regular rag to wipe them down. This avoids shredding my mob and also protects my wall from a damage by a nail being whipped around.

I love that I can use my spin mop for more than just cleaning our floors. It’s multi purpose and I don’t have to have another gadget around for just this one task.
The Best Wall Cleaning Solution
The solution that I like to use in my spin mop for cleaning walls is easy and minimal. Its simply powdered Tide laundry detergent. I may have been influenced by GoCleanCo and her amazing cleaning strategies… And if you don’t know who GoCleanCo is, you should probably look them up! They have an instagram account and their website is here. Sarah actually recommends cleaning walls with a powdered Tide and bleach solution except when around carpets as you could bleach your carpet in spots. I choose to leave bleach out when cleaning for just regular dirt and grime. If we were just sick and I’m doing a quick deep clean, I would most definitely throw some bleach in as well.
For powdered Tide, I use about 1 tsp in my mop. I then mix that powdered detergent goodness with hot water by running hot water in my shower or bath tub. This is the same combination that GoCleanCo recommends so I’m not the only one saying it works. The professionals do too!
The mop bucket holds somewhere in the neighborhood of a gallon of water which really isn’t all that much. But the key thing to keep in mind is that when your mop water is dirty, you have to change it out. You just have to. Our you’ll be smearing dirt right back all over your walls which won’t get them truly clean. Sure, you might remove the surface level of dirt and dust, but you won’t get it truly clean.
Why Powdered Tide Works
Powdered Tide works so well for cleaning walls because it breaks down and lifts dirt without being super sudsy. It also doesn’t leave a residue. This is key, you don’t want to leave a residue on your walls. If you do, it can be detrimental if you ever paint them.
I once painted a laundry room where there had been fabric softener spilled on the walls but I didn’t know about it prior to painting. I gave the walls a quick wipe down without any detergent and after painting, I had streak marks on the wall. It took several (5? 6 maybe?) coats of paint to cover these marks up. But it would have been prevented it I had used a detergent to break it down and clean it off.
So how do we actually do this?
Ok, enough about the tools, lets talk the process…
To clean my walls using my O-Cedar spin mop, you have to start with the prep work. If you’re doing just a light clean, maybe once a month, you probably can leave all your wall decor up. But if you’re deep cleaning, pull all the things off the wall. Pictures, floating shelves, everything. This will let you get closer to the nails and have to hand clean less.

You will also need to pull everything away from your walls. All your furniture will need to be a couple feet away from the wall so you can get back behind them. Don’t be that lazy person who just cleans around it. Please… don’t be that person.
Next, grab your O-Cedar spin mop and put about 1 teaspoon of powdered Tide laundry detergent in the bucket. Follow that with hot water. Don’t overfill the bucket, but just fill so that the water line is just shy of the spin portion of the bucket.
Dunk your mop head into the water and then place into spin portion. Make sure that all the fabric of the mop head is down in the spin bowl. Step on the spin pedal just one or two times to get the majority of the water out of the mop.
Start with the top of your walls and work your way down. Working in sections, sweep your mop with medium pressure across your walls. I like to quickly cover an area twice to make sure that I got all the dirt and grime.
When you run into an area with nails or wall decor, use a microfiber rag to protect your mop from getting shredded by the nails or causing damage to your decor.
When your water becomes dirty, dump it into your toilet and replace the water with fresh hot water and detergent.
That’s it!
So that’s it! Cleaning your walls will likely take you a quick half hour per room instead of at least and hour and they’ll be just as clean if not better than by hand. Because if you don’t dread the task as much, you’re more likely to actually do it.
