Wet & Forget® vs. Professional Power Washing
Many homeowners have to decide whether to take a DIY approach to pressure washing their home or to call a professional pressure washing company like Pristine Clean. Products like Wet & Forget®, which claims to be a one-and-done solution for outdoor surface cleaning, can persuade some homeowners to choose using it over calling a professional. But does Wet & Forget® really work?

Our aim is to be as objective as possible—after all, a product that claims to eliminate “scrubbing, rinsing, power washing, and even mixing solutions,” deserves some investigation. We understand its appeal to homeowners, and if it does what it says, then by all means we want to use it, too! Let’s take a look at the product a little more closely.

Wet & Forget® Products
The entire line of Wet & Forget® products is branded well. The company offers cleansers for your roof, siding, and exterior flat surfaces. For our specific purposes, we will look at the Wet & Forget® Moss Mold Mildew & Algae Stain Remover. The active ingredient is Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, which is 9.9% of the product. This ingredient is also known as Benzalkonium chloride, and it is one of the active ingredients in Clorox wipes. The interesting thing is that Clorox wipes do not contain bleach. According to Leah Kennedy-Jangraw in The Science Behind Household Cleaners, they are ammonia-based. Basically, the Wet & Forget® Moss Mold Mildew & Algae Stain Remover is the same type of product you use to clean your counters, toilets, and showers. So that’s not necessarily a bad thing if it is safe and effective.
Are Homeowners Happy With Wet & Forget® Results?
At first glance, the reviews are positive: Amazon rates Wet & Forget® Moss Mold Mildew & Algae Stain Remover 4.4 of 5 stars with 4,859 reviews.

Many of the positive reviews mention having to wait a very long time to see results. As reviewer Larry E. Reed says, “It worked extremely well on a brick staircase and wall. You need to have patience though as it took about 10 months to work completely.”
Many of the critical reviews are far more detailed and reveal a letdown after applying the product to an exterior surface.
One reviewer says, “My brick patio & walkways are mostly in damp, shady areas, so they are completely covered in moss. I followed the instructions, and it did turn the moss brown (dead I assume) eventually, but the moss was still completely stuck to the bricks. I finally pulled out my power washer which I could have done in the first place.”
Another reviewer says, “It did not work at all. There was no change whatsoever on my cement walkway. I sprayed a large amount on the area, even 3 days later, it looks the same. It sounded too good to be true. I am very disappointed.”
Dangers of Wet and Forget
Wet & Forget can be dangerous under certain circumstances. You shouldn’t use the wet and forget outdoor method inside unless you have a respirators with a fresh air tank attached. It may be dangerous if inhaled directly, even when it’s diluted. This particular ingredient is not something to mess around with. It’s extremely toxic, even though it is the reason the product has success.

What Is Pristine Clean’s Experience With Wet & Forget® Results?
Before we started Pristine Clean, we used Wet & Forget® products numerous times for The Gutter Boys’ clients. We used the product mainly for siding and roof cleaning, and we were never that impressed. The product was very easy to apply, but when we tried to “forget” about it, our clients didn’t let us. Even after a long period of time had elapsed, the product always delivered lackluster results. Our negative experience with products like this motivated us to seek a better approach and ultimately become leaders in the power washing industry.
The Advantages of Professional Power Washing
We understand that it is nice to save a few bucks and try to handle your home’s upkeep on your own. However, nothing outperforms a professional power wash of your home’s exterior surfaces. We find that our clients want results that are thorough, long-lasting, and immediate. That is just not something that Wet & Forget® can provide. If you do choose a DIY approach, take your time, use extreme care, and be mindful that the wrong product—and improper application—can damage your home and its surrounding landscape.
When you want your home’s exterior surfaces cleaned safely and effectively, count on the professionalism, skill, and knowledge of the Pristine Clean team. We know how to remove the dirt, grime, and algae from your home’s roof, siding, patio, deck, concrete driveway, and more.
