For ages people have been trying to solve the soft drink mystery.

It has now been revealed that various factors impact the taste – from the containers the Coca-Cola syrup is stored in at the fast food chain’s restaurants to the type of straws provided.
It goes back to when Coca-Cola first appeared on McDonald’s menus in the 1950s.
The two multi-national companies have, over the years, developed 10 different processes that explain why the soda drink differs so much compared to anywhere else.
First off, unlike the canned drink, the syrup and sparkling water in the McDonald’s coke is not pre-mixed, Ranker.com explains.
Instead, the two ingredients are stored separately, and only start combining as they are poured out of the fountain tap.
Many think this process leads to a “fresher flavour”.
The second point is that McDonald’s takes great care to make sure their syrup levels are standardised, making sure there is 40 grams of sugar in every small coke.

That standard measure even takes into account the melting ice and ensures the dilution won’t affect the flavour.
To slow down the dilution, McDonald’s pre-chills its syrup which also means the beverage stays fizzy for longer.
Another reason is that McDonald’s uses “steel storage tanks” for their syrup rather than plastic bags like most other restaurants.
This ensures the drink stays as fresh as possible for as long as possible and keeps flavour consistent throughout all McDonald’s outlets.
Even the carbonated water has an impact.
The water used to mix the syrup is kept at a “chilled temperature” thanks to insulated tubing, allowing the fountain to stay within a constant range of 0.5 to 3.3 degrees Celsius.
In addition, the carbon dioxide levels are kept at a high to completely “optimise” bubble-levels, which is said to add a slightly crispier sensation many attribute to McDonald’s coke.
The company also uses an “advanced water filtration system” which ensures the cleanest water possible and establish a “uniform beverage standard” no matter where the water comes from.
McDonald’s also uses “wider straws” than any other fast food outlet which means “bigger sips”.
By doing this, the drink “washes over customers’ taste buds” more efficiently.

Even the McDonald’s containers have an impact, with their plastic cups able to “return carbonation” far better than glass or aluminium cans.
The plastic cup is not nearly as porous and efficiently “traps the gas” of the carbonated drink.
The revelation has taken many fans of McDonald’s coke by storm with a lively discussion taking place on social media.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Since working for coke I’ve learned a lot of random facts.
“Today I learned that McDonald’s coke tastes better to people because both their syrup and water that mixes with it are both refrigerated.
“Temperature has a big impact on taste. The more you know.”
Replying to the poster, one person wrote: “Their coke is the best for sure.”
In a separate thread, another Twitter user wrote: “That’s because soda fountains are held and sold differently. McDonald’s does a thing to their coke to make it taste better.”
Another person went to the trouble of ranking their favourite diet cokes and put “fountain from McDonald’s” in the top slot.
Someone else went to the site to write: “I don’t know what they put in McDonald’s coke cola but so good.”
