How to Fix Wyze Cam Outdoor Recording Problems
1. Enable Event Recording in the Wyze App
Your Wyze Outdoor Camera does not record events by default. If you want the camera to record events whenever it detects motion, you need to enable event recording in the Wyze app.
So, if your Wyze Cam Outdoor isn’t recording events, check whether the event recording feature is active. If not, enable it to allow the camera to record events.
Here’s how to check and enable event recording in the Wyze app:
- Open the Wyze app on your phone/tablet.
- Click on your Wyze Outdoor Camera on the home screen. Then, tap the Settings symbol at the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Event Recording.
- Check whether the button beside the Detects Motions tab is in the ON position. If not, toggle it to the ON position to enable events recording.
- Also, go to the Schedule tab under Event Recording and select All Day. This will ensure your Wyze Cam doesn’t miss any events.
2. Increase the Motion Detection Sensitivity
Another reason your Wyze Outdoor Camera isn’t recording events is because the motion detection sensitivity is low.
If your Wyze Outdoor Camera’s motion detection sensitivity is set to Low, the device will only detect and record large motion events. Examples of large motion events are running or jumping.
But if the motion detection sensitivity is set to High, it will detect small motion events like walking.
Since most people moving around your home will be walking, you’ll need to set your Wyze Outdoor Camera’s motion detection sensitivity to High.
Take the following steps to set the motion detection sensitivity feature in your Wyze Outdoor Camera to High:
- Open the Wyze app on your phone/tablet and select your Wyze Outdoor Camera.
- Next, click on the Settings symbol at the top of the screen and select Motion Detection Settings.
- Move the slider under the Motion Detection Settings tab to High.
- Also, set the Set Detection Distance of the Camera option to Far, and the Set Image Sensitivity of the Camera option to High.
Your camera should start recording events once the Motion Detection Sensitivity feature in the device is set to High.
3. Decrease the Recording Cooldown Time in Your Camera
The Recording Cooldown time is the time the camera takes to pause between one event recording and another. If the Recording Cooldown time is too long, your camera may miss certain events.

If your Wyze Outdoor Camera still fails to record certain events, the Recording Cooldown time on the device might be too long. You can resolve this problem by reducing the Recording Cooldown time to about 1 min.
Follow the steps below to reduce the Recording Cooldown time on your Wyze Outdoor Camera:
- Tap your Wyze Outdoor Cam on the home screen of your Wyze app.
- Click on the Settings symbol at the top of the screen. Next, select Event Recording.
- Tap Recording Cooldown.
- Now, click on “1 min” to reduce your camera’s Recording Cooldown time to 1 minute.
4. Move Your Router Closer to the Camera
Your Wyze Outdoor Camera might be failing to record events because it’s not receiving sufficient Wi-Fi signals. If your Wi-Fi signal strength is low, you’ll need to move your router closer to the camera.
But first, you should check whether the camera’s signal strength is low.
Here’s how to check your Wyze Outdoor Camera’s signal strength:
- Open the Wyze app on your phone and click on your Wyze Outdoor Camera.
- Tap the Settings symbol at the top of the screen.
- Next, select Device Info and tap Signal strength.
- If the Wyze Outdoor Camera has three full signal bars, the camera’s signal strength is strong. But if it has less than three bars, the signal strength is low, and you’ll need to bring your router closer to the camera. We recommend placing the camera and the router within 30 feet of each other.
Your Wyze Outdoor Camera should resume recording events after improving your Wi-Fi signal strength.
5. Reboot Your Router
What if your camera still has low signal strength after bringing your router closer? If so, you may need to reboot the router to fix connectivity issues.
You can reboot your router by unplugging it from the power outlet and plugging it back in. Wait for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in.
6. Power Cycle Your Wyze Outdoor Camera
Another fix to try if your Wyze Outdoor Camera isn’t recording events is to power cycle it. Power cycling the camera should fix any loading errors or unseen glitches preventing the camera from working properly.
Here’s are the steps to follow to power cycle your Wyze Cam Outdoor:
- Flip the power switch on the back of the camera to the OFF position. If your camera is connected to a power outlet, unplug it.
- Now, wait for about 30 seconds and flip the power switch back to the ON position. If you’ve unplugged it from the power outlet, plug it back in.
So that’s how to power cycle your Wyze Cam Outdoor, and it should help fix the event recording issues.
7. Update Your Wyze Outdoor Camera’s Firmware
Your Wyze Outdoor Cam may malfunction if it’s running on an outdated firmware version. So, if the event recording issue persists, check if your camera’s firmware requires an update—and update it.
Here’s how to do this:
- Open the Wyze app and click on the Account icon at the top of the home screen.
- Scroll to Device List.
- If your firmware is outdated, you’ll see an Update option beside the name of your Wyze Outdoor Camera.
- Tap Update to update your Wyze Outdoor Camera’s firmware.
8. Disable Counteractive Rules
If your Wyze Outdoor Camera is not recording events, you may have enabled some rules that are preventing the device from functioning properly.

Rules help you control how your Wyze Outdoor Camera functions. There are many rules in the Wyze app, but only two of them affect Event Recording. These rules are—Turn Off Motion Detection and Turn Off Camera. If these two rules are enabled, your camera won’t record events.
If your Wyze Outdoor Camera isn’t recording events, check that the rules mentioned above are not enabled.
Take the following steps to disable rules that hinder Event Recording in your Wyze Outdoor Camera:
- Click on the Menu icon (3 dots) at the top of the Home tab in the Wyze app.
- Select Add/Edit Rules.
- Next, click on “Turn Off Motion Detection and Turn Off Camera” to see if they are enabled. If so, disable them.
9. Turn Off Detection Zones
If your Wyze Outdoor Camera isn’t recording certain events, it might be because the events are happening outside the camera’s detection zones.
The Wyze Cam Outdoor focuses only on activities occurring within its detection zones, thus missing events occurring outside the zones. If you want the camera to record more events, you need to disable detection zones in the device.
Follow these steps to disable Detection Zones in the Wyze app:
- Click on your Wyze Outdoor Camera in the Wyze app and tap the Settings icon (gear symbol).
- Next, tap Detection Settings and select Detection Zone.
- Now, toggle the button under the Detection Zone option to disable it.
- Close your Wyze app and relaunch it.
Your Wyze Outdoor Camera should be recording events now.
Closing Thoughts
Is your Wyze Outdoor Camera still not recording events after you’ve tried all the tips above? If so, you may have to submit a log in your Wyze app.
But before you submit the log, you should know whether the error is from the Wyze Outdoor Camera or Base Station. This will determine where you will submit your log to the Wyze app.
To diagnose the event recording error in your device, observe the color of the light that appears on the camera when you move around it.
The guide below will show you how to do this:
- If no light appears when you move around the camera, submit a log in the Wyze Outdoor Camera in your Wyze app.
- If a solid blue light appears, but you don’t see any video, submit a log in your Base Station in the Wyze app.
- If you see a flashing blue light, it means the Wyze Outdoor Camera is trying to connect to the Base Station. The flashing blue light should change to a solid blue light in a few minutes, and a video should appear.
- However, if the flashing blue light never changes, submit a log on the Base Station and Wyze Outdoor Camera on the app.
Now that you know where to submit your log on the Wyze app, let’s look at how to submit a log:
- Open the Wyze App.
- Tap the Account icon at the top of the page.
- Click on Wyze Support and select Submit a Log.
- Choose the device where you want to submit the log.
- The system will send you a form. Enter your complaint in the form.
- While filling out the form, select Send Log Files. This will ensure that your logs are sent with your request.
- Now, click on the Submit button.
- You’ll be given a log ID.
- After submitting a log to the Wyze app, reach out to Wyze Support and enter your log ID.
Wyze Support will guide you on what to do to fix the issue with your camera.
