Detox waters have been around for a long time – some folks swear by them others curse their name, and some people don’t give a crap either way. But since you’re here, I think chances are pretty good that you fall into the give a damn category.
And since I’m in mind-reader mode, I’ll bet you landed here because you’re looking for a quick weight-loss fix.
I feel you. Back when I was 145 pounds overweight, I researched and tried every “miracle” cure, pill, program, and diet that caught my eye. I wanted to believe the hype – I wanted a badass Jillian Michaels Detox Water. And I wanted it to whip my body into supermodel shape ASAP.
But, as you can see from the photos, I had a long way to go, and I was going to need much more than a flat belly tea to get me there.
Cut to today. I’m 148 pounds lighter, 100 times more confident, and I’ve dedicated my life to helping women like you figure out how you can get from your before to your after.
Let’s talk about starting with this water.
The truth is there is not a lot of scientific data pointing to the benefits of drinking detox water, but the evidence that drinking water helps support weight loss and health is plentiful.
Water helps aid digestion, de-bloat, and curbs cravings. The recommended water intake is eight 8-ounce glasses per day. (More if you’re active – as in, you get sweaty:)
If you don’t drink enough, you run the risk of dehydration, which can often present itself as hunger. Or give you a headache. Or both.
But some folks, like my best friend Amanda, cannot stand the thought of drinking a glass of water much less 8. I’ve tried to convince her of the health benefits at least a thousand times, and she always shuts me down. I think there are many Amandas out there – and I get it – especially if you’ve been drinking sodas or juice on the regular – plain H20 isn’t appealing.
Which is why I think detox water is so popular. Could you get the same weight loss effects from plain water? Yes – you could, but what’s the point in debating the two if we both know you are more likely to drink the one with fruit or, in this case, tea-infused version?

This detox drink is a tea with a little lemon and cranberry juice that you drink for seven days. Every day. Along with a healthy diet.
The recipe is relatively simple, but a few of the key ingredients have gotten a tiny bit screwed up as the combination began circulating across the internet.
Here’s the “tea” on the tea.
Two tablespoons lemon juice – This needs to be 100% lemon juice. Fresh is preferred, but bottled is fine as long as it is 100% no-sugar added lemon juice.
One tablespoon cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail – which has added sugar and that’s what you’re trying to stay away from)
One organic dandelion root tea bag
7.5 cups water (60 ounces)
The lemon makes sense. As long as it’s fresh or 100% pure lemon without a bunch of preservatives and added sugar. Lemon is a natural diuretic and helps with digestion.
Plus, it adds flavor, which we can all agree is pretty essential when you’re talking about downing a drink on the daily. The cranberry juice checks out, too. Just make sure you get sugar-free – here’s an unsweetened cranberry juice you can buy on amazon.
The only ingredient that was confusing to me was the dandelion tea. So I did a little digging and here’s what I found.
Full disclosure, I didn’t know much about dandelion tea before I saw it on the ingredients list.
But it checks out. Dandelion tea is a diuretic, so it relieves symptoms of bloat.
This study shows that urine output (aka running to the lady’s room) increases after two cups of dandelion tea. Bottom line: if you feel fluffy and bloated – it will help.

Dandelion tea also may help with digestion – but there isn’t enough research to back that claim up.
Overall, it’s is considered safe, unless you’re allergic to dandelions. Since I haven’t heard of a lot of folks suffering from dangerous dandelion reactions – chances are it won’t hurt to try.
Brew the tea and let it cool. You can put it in the fridge to make it cool faster.
Then mix the tea with the lemon, cranberry, and water and store it in the fridge. Drink it every day for seven days.
The story goes that if you drink this water every day for seven days, you can lose up to ten pounds.
For the record, you are not supposed to starve yourself, but if you continue to eat an unclean diet with a lot of fried and processed foods, the drink isn’t going to help you do a thing.
But if you commit to cutting sugar and processed carbs and cut the drive-through fast food out of your life and drink the tea, you’ll lose weight and hopefully stay motivated to continue.
As for the amount of weight you’ll lose? Well, that’s going to depend on how many sugar-filled drinks you’ve been throwing down, what you’re eating, and how much weight you have to lose. There are a few variables – so there’s no guarantees. Does that suck? Yes. But it’s #truth:)
Try it and then come back after seven days and let me know how it went. And while you’re here, check out your options for cleaning up your diet.
